Hyderabad Resident Finds Maggot in Swiggy Biryani, ₹64 Refund Offered

Maggot

In a shocking incident, a resident of Hyderabad has reported discovering a maggot in chicken biryani ordered through Swiggy. The individual, identified as Sai Teja, lodged a complaint with Swiggy after finding the foreign matter in their meal. In response, Swiggy offered a refund of ₹64 for the incident, which occurred with an order totalling ₹318.

Teja took to social media to highlight the issue, tagging the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, and advising others against ordering from Mehfil in Kukatpally, where the incident took place. Images shared by Teja depict a maggot found in one of the chicken pieces within the biryani.

The conversation screenshots with Swiggy’s customer care reveal Teja’s dissatisfaction, reporting, “Got bug in piece,” to which the representative expressed regret that the order did not meet expectations. They clarified that restaurant packaging is solely the responsibility of the restaurant, yet offered ₹64 as a gesture of apology.

This incident follows a recent case in Gujarat, where a diner claimed to have found a rat in sambar at a restaurant in Ahmedabad. Following dissatisfaction with the restaurant’s response, the matter was escalated to the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Authorities swiftly responded, inspecting the restaurant’s kitchen and subsequently sealing it due to unsafe conditions, directing the owner to rectify food safety issues promptly.
