Melbourne-Bound Virgin Flight Turns Back Over Naked Passenger

Virgin Flight

A Virgin Australia flight bound for Melbourne was forced to turn back after a male passenger reportedly stripped naked and assaulted a crew member. The incident occurred shortly after departure from Perth.

Airport staff alerted Australian federal police officers, who apprehended the individual upon the flight’s return to Perth, as reported by The Guardian.

According to a passenger interviewed by The Guardian, chaos ensued about an hour into the flight when a naked man began running up the aisle toward the front of the plane. The situation initially sparked concern for a potential attack, causing distress among passengers.

However, fellow passengers, including one from business class, intervened and managed to subdue the disruptive individual. He was subsequently restrained, handcuffed, and taken to the rear of the aircraft.

Additional reports from passengers shared on Melbourne radio station 3AW described the man’s erratic behavior, including banging on the cockpit door. Air marshals on board assisted in restraining him until the flight safely landed back in Perth.

Virgin spokesperson, as cited by The Guardian, confirmed that Flight VA696 returned to Perth Airport due to a “disruptive passenger” who was apprehended by police. The airline expressed apologies to affected guests, emphasizing the safety of passengers and crew as their primary concern.
