Udupi: The police have arrested a warrant accused who had been absconding for nearly a year in connection with a narcotics case registered at the Malpe police station in Udupi district.
The accused has been identified as Kishore (24), a resident of Lakshmi Nagar in Uppoor village. He had reportedly failed to appear before the court for about one year in relation to a case pending before the District and Sessions Court in Udupi.
According to police sources, the case relates to a crime registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Malpe police station. As Kishore repeatedly failed to attend court hearings, a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Police trace accused after months of absconding
Acting on the court warrant, a police team launched a search to locate the accused who had been evading authorities for several months.
The team, comprising head constables Suresh Kumar and Adarsh, along with Police Sub-Inspector Hussain Saab, who is also the investigating officer in the case, tracked down the accused following sustained efforts.
Police eventually traced Kishore to Lakshmi Nagar in Kolalagiri near Brahmavar, where he was taken into custody.
Officials said the arrest was carried out as part of efforts to ensure that individuals facing serious criminal charges do not evade the judicial process.
Accused linked to multiple cases
During the investigation, police found that Kishore was also wanted in connection with several other criminal cases registered in different police station limits in the district.
According to police sources, he is reportedly involved in cases registered at the Brahmavar, Kundapur, and Udupi police stations.
Authorities are expected to review these cases as part of further investigation and legal proceedings following his arrest.
Court remands accused to judicial custody
After his arrest, Kishore was produced before the competent court.
Following the hearing, the court ordered that the accused be remanded to judicial custody until March 26.
Police officials stated that the arrest marks an important step in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics-related offences in the district.
