Udupi: Adarsha Hospital, Udupi, organised a free mega heart check-up camp on Sunday, September 27, to mark World Heart Day and raise awareness about heart-related diseases and the importance of preventive healthcare.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna inaugurated the camp at the hospital premises in the presence of hospital officials, doctors and other dignitaries.
Yashpal Suvarna stresses importance of health awareness
Addressing the gathering, Yashpal Suvarna said Udupi is known for several achievements and appreciated Dr G S Chandrashekar for contributing to society through his medical service.
He stressed the importance of awareness in preventing and reducing health risks and appreciated Adarsha Hospital for organising the World Heart Day programme.
“People have many dreams, but good health is essential to turn those dreams into reality. Awareness programmes of this nature are beneficial to society. Education and health are two important areas that receive priority in our country,” he said.
He added that Adarsha Hospital had become a household name and called for collective efforts to create greater health awareness in society.
Doctor highlights rising heart disease cases
Dr G S Chandrashekar, medical director of Adarsha Hospital, expressed concern over the increasing incidence of heart attacks and other heart-related diseases in India, including among younger people.
He said severe heart-related conditions are increasingly being reported among young individuals and highlighted unhealthy food habits, lack of physical activity and stress as important factors contributing to heart disease.
Dr Chandrashekar stressed the need to maintain a healthy body mass index, control diabetes, exercise regularly, manage stress and get adequate sleep.
Referring to the World Health Organization’s emphasis on prevention, he said adopting healthier lifestyle practices could help reduce the risk of heart attacks. He added that Adarsha Hospital has been conducting awareness programmes to promote better health practices among the public.
Specialists speak on preventive heart care
Dr Suhas G C, director and heart specialist at Adarsha Hospital, said healthy food, regular exercise, adequate sleep and sufficient rest are important for maintaining good heart health. He also highlighted the importance of undergoing regular health check-ups.
Heart specialists Dr Srikanth Krishna and Dr Vishu Kumar B, along with cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr Guruprasad D Rai, delivered informative talks on heart health and preventive measures.
The programme focused on encouraging people to identify risk factors early and adopt healthier lifestyle practices to protect their cardiovascular health.
Free tests offered at camp
As part of the camp, free random blood sugar (RBS), echocardiogram (Echo), CEG, treadmill test (TMT) and lipid profile tests were conducted for members of the public.
The hospital also announced discounted rates for angiogram, angioplasty and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery from September 29 to October 4.
