Udupi: The Udupi District Billava Yuva Vedike has demanded an impartial and comprehensive investigation into the death of Pradeep Poojary, a resident of Perdoor, who died by suicide at Udupi District Hospital. The organisation has also sought the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in the case and an inquiry into the conduct of police personnel.

A special meeting was convened at Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavana in Bannanje under the leadership of Praveen M Poojary, district president of the Billava Yuva Vedike. Leaders of the Billava community and family members of the deceased attended the meeting and discussed the circumstances surrounding his death.

Following the meeting, a delegation met the Udupi District Superintendent of Police and submitted a memorandum outlining its demands.

Demand for impartial investigation and special police team

In its memorandum, the Billava Yuva Vedike called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the case. It demanded the immediate arrest of the accused allegedly involved and urged the police department to constitute a special team to investigate the matter.

The organisation said the circumstances surrounding Pradeep Poojary’s death required a comprehensive probe and sought appropriate action based on the findings.

The delegation also urged senior police officials to ensure that all aspects of the case were examined without bias or delay.

Seeks inquiry into Hiriyadka police

The memorandum raised concerns over the handling of the complaint allegedly submitted by the victim’s side before the Hiriyadka Police Station.

The organisation demanded an inquiry into whether there had been any dereliction of duty by police personnel in connection with the case. It specifically sought an investigation into allegations that the complaint was not accepted by the station.

The Billava Yuva Vedike called for the Station House Officer and other staff members of Hiriyadka Police Station to be subjected to an inquiry.

It further demanded appropriate legal action against any police personnel found negligent in discharging their duties.

The organisation maintained that accountability was necessary to ensure that the investigation proceeded properly and that any lapses were addressed.

Delegation meets district in-charge minister

Apart from approaching the district police chief, the delegation also met Udupi District in-charge Minister Rizwan Arshad and submitted a memorandum seeking intervention in the case.

The minister reportedly assured the delegation that appropriate action would be taken regarding the matter.

The organisation has warned that it would launch a large-scale protest across Udupi district if negligence in the investigation continued. It urged the authorities to respond to its demands and ensure a fair investigation.

The demands made by the Billava Yuva Vedike are now before the district authorities. Further developments will depend on the action taken by the police department and the district administration.
