Brahmavar: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly abandoned by her son at an unfamiliar location in Brahmavar, leaving her distressed and helpless.

The incident came to light when school bus driver Ramanath Shenoy noticed the elderly woman wandering helplessly near SMS English Medium School in Brahmavar. Concerned about her condition, he informed social worker Nityananda Olakadu about the matter.

Woman shifted to District Hospital

Responding to the information, Nityananda Olakadu, with the assistance of personnel from the 112 emergency police helpline, arranged for the woman to be taken to the District Hospital at Ajjarkad in Udupi.

During the admission process, the woman identified herself as Saraswathi, 70, and said she was a resident of Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.

According to the woman, her son had brought her in a car and left her at an unfamiliar location before driving away. She was subsequently found wandering near the school, apparently unable to find her way or contact her family.

The circumstances surrounding how she reached Brahmavar and why she was allegedly abandoned are yet to be established.

Women’s police station informed

Following the incident, Nityananda Olakadu orally informed the Women’s Police Station and the Senior Citizens Helpline about the woman’s situation.

The authorities have been informed so that appropriate assistance can be provided to Saraswathi and efforts can be made to establish her family details and circumstances leading to her abandonment.

The incident has also highlighted the importance of timely intervention when elderly persons are found in distress or without family support in public places.
