On the morning of August 10, a severe accident occurred when a private AKMS bus traveling from Byndoor to Kundapura collided with a lorry near the Tallur tourist spot. The crash caused significant damage to both the rear of the bus and the front of the lorry.
The collision resulted in serious injuries to Prasad, a student from Venkataramana English Medium School, who has been admitted to Manipal Hospital. Several other students from the same school, including Shreyas Poojari, Deepashree, Tanush, Preetam, and Kota Ashrita, also sustained minor injuries. Additionally, nursing college students Ashmita and Ashwini were injured and are receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kundapura.
According to witnesses, the bus had stopped at a petrol bunk near Tallur on NH 66 to pick up a passenger. After the passenger boarded, the bus driver resumed driving abruptly, leading to the lorry crashing into the rear of the bus despite the driver’s attempts to brake.
The Kundapura Traffic Police have filed a case and are investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident. The investigation will focus on the sequence of events and potential negligence by the drivers involved.
