Byndoor: Two people accused in a case involving an alleged attempt to kill a woman by administering unidentified injections were found dead near the Souparnika River at Charsal in Golihole village, under the Byndoor police station limits, on September 29.

The deceased have been identified as Vittal Naik, 35, and Bhavya alias Nishmitha, 33. Police said the two had been named accused in a case registered at Kollur Police Station on September 11. The case concerns an alleged plot to poison or kill Naik’s wife using unidentified injections.

The discovery of the bodies has added a new turn to the investigation. Police have not yet established the precise circumstances or timing of the deaths. Preliminary assessment suggests that the two may have died by suicide several days before their bodies were found, but the cause and circumstances remain under investigation.

Bodies found near Souparnika River

The bodies of the man and woman were found hanging near the banks of the Souparnika River in the Charsal area of Golihole village.

The location falls within the jurisdiction of Byndoor Police Station. After the bodies were discovered, police reached the spot and began the necessary investigation and legal procedures.

A Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) team also inspected the location to collect and examine forensic evidence. Investigators are expected to establish how long the two had been at the location and determine the circumstances preceding their deaths.

Police have indicated that the bodies may have been at the location for several days. However, this remains a preliminary assessment, and the exact time of death will have to be established through the investigation and post-mortem procedures.

Two were accused in September 11 case

The deaths are directly connected to a criminal case registered at Kollur Police Station earlier this month.

According to police, Vittal Naik and Bhavya alias Nishmitha were accused in the case registered on September 11 under Sections 123 and 109 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The case related to an alleged attempt to kill Naik’s wife by administering unidentified injections. Police are investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the earlier case.

Reports have also stated that Bhavya was allegedly in a relationship with Naik. This aspect was cited by police in connection with the investigation, but it remains an allegation and does not by itself establish the circumstances of the alleged poisoning attempt.

Police investigating alleged poisoning attempt

The earlier case is centred on the allegation that Naik’s wife was targeted through the administration of unidentified injections.

The exact nature of the substance allegedly used, how it was administered and the circumstances of the alleged attempt are matters for investigators to establish. The available reports do not indicate that the allegations have been proven in court.

With both named accused now dead, investigators will also have to examine the circumstances leading up to their deaths and whether there is any connection between the earlier case and the events at Charsal.

Police are examining available evidence from the location where the bodies were found. Forensic examination is expected to assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Exact cause of death yet to be established

Although police have expressed the preliminary suspicion that the two may have died by suicide several days before their bodies were discovered, authorities have not announced a final determination of the cause of death.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said the exact cause of death was yet to be ascertained, according to The Times of India.

This distinction is important as the investigation is still underway. The recovery of the bodies and the preliminary police assessment do not by themselves establish all the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Post-mortem examination and forensic findings will form part of the investigation into the deaths.

SOCO team examines the scene

A specialist Scene of Crime Officer team visited the location following the discovery of the bodies.

Forensic teams typically document the scene and collect material that may help investigators reconstruct events. In this case, the examination is particularly significant because the deceased were already accused in an ongoing criminal investigation.

Byndoor police are continuing inquiries while the necessary legal procedures are being carried out. Investigators are also expected to establish when the two reached the riverbank and what happened before their deaths.

Investigation continues

The incident has brought together two separate developments — an earlier alleged attempt to harm a woman and the subsequent deaths of the two people accused in that case.

At present, police have not publicly established a final explanation for the deaths. The earlier poisoning-related allegations also remain subject to investigation.

The discovery at Charsal has therefore become a fresh part of the ongoing police inquiry. Further details are expected after forensic examination, post-mortem procedures and investigation into the sequence of events.
