Udupi: The two-day Canara Retail Expo 2026, organised by Canara Bank Circle Office, Manipal, and Canara Bank Regional Office 1, Udupi, was inaugurated at MGM College Grounds on Saturday, October 24. The expo brings together automobile dealers, housing and construction companies, builders and solar energy providers, offering customers special purchase deals, discounts and loan processing facilities.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna inaugurated the expo and highlighted Canara Bank’s contribution to India’s economic development and the banking sector’s growth. The event also brought together business representatives and bank officials, who spoke about the region’s economic potential, growing retail demand and the opportunities available through customer-friendly banking services.

The expo aims to connect prospective buyers with businesses and financial services, enabling customers to explore purchase options and financing opportunities under one roof.

Yashpal Suvarna highlights Canara Bank’s contribution

Addressing the gathering, MLA Yashpal Suvarna said Canara Bank, which originated in the region, had made significant contributions to the country’s economic growth. He noted that the undivided Dakshina Kannada district was widely recognised as the cradle of India’s banking sector.

Suvarna referred to the bank’s position in the national banking landscape following its merger and highlighted the growing accessibility of banking services.

He said banking facilities had become increasingly convenient, with customers able to access services through digital platforms and at their doorsteps. He also referred to developments in the banking sector since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, noting the expansion of digital banking and customer-oriented services.

Suvarna emphasised that Canara Bank continued to provide services aimed at meeting customers’ needs, adding that the region’s longstanding association with banking had contributed to its economic development.

Coastal Karnataka’s retail sector sees growth

Businessman Prasadraj Kanchan, who attended the programme as chief guest, spoke about the expo’s role in creating opportunities for consumers and businesses in Udupi.

Kanchan said Canara Bank had been organising the retail expo for the past 10 years, providing customers with opportunities to explore products and make purchases while enabling participating businesses to reach a wider audience.

He observed that the region had a strong economic base and that retail and automobile businesses were witnessing growth. He also highlighted the purchasing capacity of consumers in coastal Karnataka and the potential for further expansion in the retail sector.

Referring to the changing business environment, Kanchan said consumer spending patterns evolved every year and that access to funds played an important role in purchasing decisions. He appreciated Canara Bank’s efforts to connect financing facilities with consumer demand through initiatives such as the retail expo.

He also pointed to the growing adoption of digitalisation in the region, saying businesses and customers were increasingly using digital platforms and services.

Canara Bank offers on-the-spot loan processing

H K Gangadhar, general manager of Canara Bank Circle Office, Manipal, said the expo continued to attract new vendors each year and had helped participating businesses generate sales.

He noted that Canara Bank and the former Syndicate Bank had developed strong roots in the same region, maintaining a close association with local customers over the years.

Gangadhar said the bank’s familiarity with the region and its people remained an important part of its approach to customer service. He also highlighted the bank’s continued presence in the market and its efforts to provide services suited to customers’ requirements.

The expo features on-the-spot loan processing counters to help prospective buyers explore financing options and facilitate applications.

The participation of vendors from different sectors is expected to give visitors an opportunity to compare products, understand available offers and seek financial assistance for purchases.

Automobile, housing and solar brands participate

The two-day expo features businesses representing several major purchase categories, including automobiles, housing, construction and solar energy.

Leading vehicle brands, builders, housing developers and house construction companies are participating in the event. Visitors can explore products and services, compare available options and enquire about financing arrangements.

The organisers have announced free entry to the expo, along with special purchase offers, attractive discounts and assured gifts. Visitors will also have an opportunity to win prizes through a lucky draw.

The event provides a common platform for businesses to showcase their offerings while enabling customers to access information about products and financing facilities in one location.

For prospective homebuyers and vehicle buyers, the combination of participating vendors and loan processing counters offers an opportunity to understand the financial requirements involved in major purchases.

Documents required for loan applications

Customers planning to apply for loans at the expo have been advised to carry the necessary documents to facilitate processing.

The recommended documents include:

  • PAN card
  • Aadhaar card
  • Income tax return documents for the last three years
  • Salary slips for the last six months

Carrying these documents can help applicants complete the initial loan application formalities more efficiently. Final approval will depend on the bank’s applicable eligibility criteria, verification procedures and lending requirements.

The availability of loan processing counters is intended to make it easier for customers to discuss financing options directly with bank representatives while exploring products at the expo.

Bank officials attend inaugural programme

Mahamaya Prasad Roy, deputy general manager of Canara Bank Regional Office 1, Udupi, welcomed the gathering.

Archana, regional manager, compered the programme, while Kaushik Reddy of the Retail Assets Hub proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural event brought together bank officials, business representatives and customers, highlighting the role of retail exhibitions in connecting local businesses with prospective buyers.

The Canara Retail Expo 2026 will continue for two days at MGM College Grounds in Udupi, offering visitors an opportunity to explore retail products, purchase incentives and financing facilities.

With participation from automobile, housing, construction and solar energy providers, the expo seeks to encourage consumer activity and strengthen links between businesses and banking services in the coastal region.
