MANGALURU: Three cashew industries in Udupi district have accused three individuals of cheating them out of Rs 2.6 crore by purchasing processed cashew nuts on credit and failing to pay as promised. All cases have been registered within the Shankaranarayana police station limits.
H Nagaraj, managing partner of Malnad Cashews, accused Bharathi Neelesh Savla, owner of Mahavir Trading Company, Mumbai, her husband Nilesh Niranjan Savla, and relative Piyush Gogriyu of cheating his company of Rs 48,85,650. The company had been selling to Bharathi on credit for the last 15 years on the recommendation of Nithish K from Mangaluru. On October 18, 2023, they purchased processed cashew nuts worth Rs 48,85,650 with a promise to pay within 15 days but failed to do so despite repeated reminders.
In a separate case, Prabhu, managing partner of Sriram Cashews, accused the trio of cheating his company out of Rs 42,22,890 by purchasing cashew nuts on credit and failing to repay. When repeatedly asked for payment, the suspects issued two cheques, which bounced due to insufficient funds.
Additionally, Naresh, managing partner of Vanasiri Cashews, accused the trio of purchasing cashew nuts worth Rs 1,93,42,750 on July 7, 2023. They paid Rs 22,00,802 with a promise to settle the remaining amount by December 12, 2023, but failed to pay the pending Rs 1,71,41,948.
Shankaranarayana police have registered separate cases for each incident.
