Karkala: The Karkala Town Police have registered a case after raiding an alleged cockfighting gambling event at Porlottuguthu in Sanur village of Karkala taluk. During the operation, police seized five roosters, cash and other materials allegedly used for the illegal activity.
The raid was conducted based on credible information received by the police regarding the gambling event.
Police raid gambling spot
According to the police, PSI Shivakumar led the operation along with his team after receiving specific information about cockfighting being organised at Porlottuguthu.
During the raid, the police allegedly found Rakshith Shetty, Praveen Devadiga and several others participating in the cockfighting gambling event.
Some of the persons present reportedly managed to flee from the spot, while the police initiated legal action against those identified during the investigation.
Roosters, cash and materials seized
During the operation, the police seized five roosters allegedly used for cockfighting, with their value estimated at around Rs 12,000.
In addition, Rs 4,350 in cash, believed to have been used in the gambling activity, was recovered from the spot.
Police also confiscated other materials suspected to have been used for organising the cockfighting event.
Case registered
Following the raid, the Karkala Town Police registered a case against the accused under the relevant provisions of law.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify all those involved in organising and participating in the gambling activity. Police are also examining whether similar events had been conducted at the location earlier.
Authorities have reiterated that organising or participating in cockfighting and gambling is illegal and warned that strict action will be taken against those found violating the law.
