Udupi: The Udupi District Congress staged a road blockade at Brahmagiri Circle on Tuesday, protesting over the alleged NEET question paper leak and condemning the police action against Congress leaders and party workers. The demonstration led to brief traffic disruption before police intervened and took the protesters into preventive custody.

Holding placards and raising slogans, the demonstrators criticised the Central government and accused it of failing to address concerns related to the examination.
The protest briefly brought traffic to a halt as party workers blocked the road, resulting in minor inconvenience to motorists passing through the busy junction.
Police detain protesters
Police personnel later reached the protest site and persuaded the demonstrators to clear the road.
When the protesters continued their demonstration, the police took several Congress workers into preventive custody to restore normal traffic movement and maintain law and order.
Traffic resumed after the protesters were removed from the road, and no untoward incidents were reported during the protest.
Congress criticises police action
Addressing the gathering, Congress leaders condemned the alleged police action against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Congress workers during protests held elsewhere over the NEET issue.
They alleged that students and protesters who had raised their voices against the alleged NEET question paper leak were being targeted and said such action was unacceptable in a democratic society.
The leaders also expressed solidarity with those protesting against the alleged examination irregularities.
Demands accountability from Centre
Congress leaders criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on what they described as a serious issue affecting the future of students across the country.
They accused the Central government of attempting to suppress protests and demanded transparency regarding the alleged incidents connected to the NEET examination.
The party also called upon the Union government to respond to the concerns raised by students and opposition parties and to uphold democratic values.
