Residents and commuters along the stretch from Brahmagiri Circle to Ajjarkad District Hospital are facing severe challenges due to rapidly deteriorating road conditions, just three months after the road was asphalted. The recent rains have exacerbated the situation, resulting in dangerous potholes that have caused multiple accidents involving two-wheelers. The poor road conditions are also hindering ambulance movements, potentially jeopardizing emergency response times.

Nithyanada Olakadu, a local social worker, highlighted the issue: “During the time of Paryaya, the City Municipality undertook road repair works estimated at Rs 5 crore in Udupi. The road started deteriorating soon after completion, and now, heavy rains have worsened the situation, creating hazardous conditions for commuters, including school students.”

Residents have voiced their concerns, noting that the recent refurbishment did not meet the expected standards compared to previous works. The premature degradation of the road has sparked frustration and worry among the local community, who depend on this route for daily commuting and emergency services.

Olakadu has called for an immediate investigation and action from the Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Commissioner to address the situation promptly. The urgency for comprehensive repairs is critical to restore safe passage for all road users and mitigate the growing danger posed by the potholes.

The community is urging local authorities to take swift and effective measures to ensure the road is repaired to a standard that will withstand future weather conditions and maintain safety for all users.
