Udupi: In a heartbreaking incident near Kinnimulky on National Highway 66, a 28-year-old MBA student and devotional musician, Sankeertan, lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident. A resident of Kidiyur, he was well known as a tabla and harmonium player, and actively participated in bhajan and temple music events across the Udupi region.

The accident occurred when a car traveling from Kundapura to Mangaluru was reportedly driven recklessly. It first hit a goods vehicle, veered onto the road divider, and then collided with another oncoming goods vehicle. In the aftermath, the car struck a motorbike travelling behind one of the lorries—ridden by Sankeertan.

Thrown off the bike, Sankeertan sustained grave injuries and was rushed to a hospital, but tragically died en route. Three others were also injured in the incident.

The Malpe police have filed a case and launched an investigation into the sequence of events and driver negligence.

Sankeertan was the son of Suresh Acharya, a respected bhajan singer and tabla artist. He himself had become a familiar face at local devotional events, performing regularly at Nityananda Bhajana Mandira, Kannarpadi Jayadurga Parameshwari Temple, Prasanna Ganapathi Temple, and Veera Vitthala Temple.

Pursuing his final year MBA at Alva’s Engineering College, Moodbidri, Sankeertan’s sudden demise has left a void in the regional devotional music community, with tributes pouring in from grieving friends, artists, and spiritual institutions.
