Udupi: A senior citizen, Upeendra (72), has fallen victim to an online investment scam, losing lakhs of rupees. The incident was reported at the Sen police station.
The victim was added to a WhatsApp group impersonating the Motilal Oswal Private Wealth Management Group by unknown individuals. Enticed by promises of high returns on investment, Upeendra was convinced to deposit a total of ₹33,10,000 into various bank accounts between July 4 and 24.
The fraudsters provided regular updates on trading activities and potential profits, luring Upeendra into investing more money. However, when it came time to withdraw his investment or receive promised returns, the accused vanished, leaving the victim with a significant financial loss.
The case has been registered at the CEN police station, and investigations are underway to trace the culprits involved in this elaborate scam.
