Udupi: Marking International Girls in ICT Day, the Ananya Foundation hosted an engaging, hands-on workshop on “Smart Conversational Chatbot using Oracle APEX and LLMs” on April 24 at the Workshop Lab, F Block. The session was conducted by Niveditha B Bhat, analytics engineer, and Vidisha Shet, cloud solution engineer from Oracle Solution Engineering Hub – Technology, Japan and Asia Pacific. The event was held in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch and Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management.

The resource experts introduced Oracle APEX, a low-code platform used to develop applications swiftly. They broke down the architecture, covering components like the browser interface, Oracle REST Data Services, and the Oracle database. In addition, the session shed light on LLMs (Large Language Models) and their practical uses such as transcription, translation, emotion detection, recruitment tools, and more.

Under their guidance, around 60 students got the opportunity to develop functional chatbots, showcasing how ideas can evolve into applications using minimal code. The interactive nature of the session received enthusiastic feedback from the participants.

The programme was smoothly anchored by Chitkala (6th semester, CSE), while Dr Lolita Priya Castelino (WEC coordinator) and Dr Mamatha (HOD, AI&ML) greeted the speakers. Dr Ganesh Aithal, vice principal, presented a memento to the guests. The event also saw the presence of Dr Sadananda L Rao (IEEE coordinator) and was supported by Principal Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat.
