Kota police have taken suo-motu action against an individual for allegedly spreading false information regarding a calf’s tail being severed by a so-called “fanatic salesman.” The misleading claims, which went viral on social media, falsely suggested that the act was intentional, sparking unnecessary alarm.
According to PSI Raghavendra C, who filed the complaint on January 30, 2025, an investigation revealed that the incident had been distorted. On January 28, an unidentified elderly man had visited the house of Nagesh Mayya in Gundmi village, Brahmavar, seeking financial help. After being turned away, he left without any conflict.
Later that afternoon, while preparing to milk his cow, Mayya discovered that the sleeping calf’s tail had been accidentally severed when the cow stepped on it. However, by 8:00 PM, Mayya’s son, Anil Mayya, allegedly misrepresented the situation and, without verifying the facts, claimed on social media that a “fanatic salesman” had committed the act deliberately. A photograph of the severed tail was circulated, fueling panic and misinformation.
Police investigations confirmed that the claims were baseless and intended to create social unrest. A case has been registered at Kota police station against those responsible for spreading the false narrative. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information that could disrupt communal harmony.
