Udupi: A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against socio-spiritual influencer Meenakshi Shehrawat and the event organiser for making derogatory comments about Mahatma Gandhi.
During a program in Udupi on January 4, Shehrawat reportedly stated, “Gandhiji has been the reason for the birth of Pakistan along with Jinnah, so we will not consider him the father of the nation.” She further criticized various historical figures and events, including the banning of Shivaji Maharaj’s Shiva Bhavani poem and the imposition of Hindustani language on the majority.
She also commented negatively on the portrayal of historical figures such as Lord Sri Ramachandra and Mata Sita in Hindustani, and made controversial statements about Jinnah, Ahimsa, and the killing of Hindus during the partition.
Her remarks sparked outrage, and a suo motu complaint was filed against Shehrawat and the event organiser at the Udupi town police station.
