Details of the accident

The accident, which claimed three lives, occurred when a bus rammed into a stationary lorry and tanker parked along the roadside near Trasi-Maravanthe.

Preliminary reports suggest that the vehicles were halted on the highway when the bus collided with them, leading to severe damage and multiple injuries among passengers.

Students on educational tour

The bus was carrying final-year B.Com students of Shrimad Rambhapuri Arts and Commerce College, affiliated with Kuvempu University in Shivamogga district.

A total of 58 people were on board the bus at the time of the incident, including 47 students and four lecturers. The remaining passengers included support staff and others associated with the trip.

The scale of the accident triggered an immediate emergency response, with local residents and authorities rushing to assist the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals.

Investigation and safety concerns

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash, including the positioning of the stationary vehicles and possible negligence.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety along the busy coastal highway stretch, particularly regarding the parking of heavy vehicles on the roadside without adequate warning measures.

Conclusion

While the recovery of most injured passengers brings some relief, the loss of three lives has cast a shadow over the educational trip. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on ensuring proper treatment for those still hospitalised and preventing similar accidents in the future through stricter safety enforcement.
