Udupi: Former Udupi Municipal Council vice-president Lakshmi Manjunath was killed in a tragic road accident after she was run over by a bus on Court Road on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred while she was reportedly attempting to cross the road. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Accident on Court Road
The fatal accident took place on Court Road in Udupi on Saturday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, Lakshmi Manjunath was attempting to cross the road when she was hit and run over by a bus. She sustained fatal injuries in the accident and died at the scene.
The incident drew the attention of passers-by, following which the police were informed.
Victim identified
The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Manjunath, former vice-president of the Udupi Municipal Council.
She was also the wife of Hindu Yuva Sena leader Manju Kola. Her sudden demise has shocked local residents and members of various organisations who knew her through her public service.
Police begin investigation
Personnel from the Udupi Traffic Police rushed to the accident site soon after receiving information.
The officers conducted a spot inspection, documented evidence and initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
