Udupi: The 4th edition of the Freedom Run Manipal was officially launched on July 1 at the Canara Bank HO Annexe Building, Manipal, with the patriotic theme: “Stride with Pride for Our Armed Forces.” The marathon is set to take place on August 10, 2025, celebrating the spirit of unity and saluting India’s military heroes.
Over the years, Freedom Run Manipal has grown in scale and significance. The previous editions focused on plastic awareness, drug abuse prevention, and women empowerment. This year, the spotlight is on honouring the Indian Armed Forces, drawing widespread support from the community.
The event is backed by Canara Bank, Rohan Corporation, Manipal Technologies, Bajaj Allianz, Udupi Runners Club (URC), and Manipal Runners Club (MRC), among others. The launch coincided with Canara Bank’s 120th Foundation Day, adding to the occasion’s symbolic value.
H K Gangadhar, General Manager, Circle Office Manipal, praised the organizing team and linked the growth of the event to Canara Bank’s own humble origins in 1906.
Sudhakar Kottary, also GM, expressed delight at witnessing the event firsthand after seeing it only in the media before.
Krishna Prasad R, GM, noted participant numbers have risen from 3,000 to over 5,000 last year, expecting 7,000+ runners in 2025.
Dr Naveen appreciated the evolving themes and relevance of this year’s message.
Major Radhakrishnan, Dr Girish Menon, Dr Thilak Chandra Pal, and URC & MRC representatives also shared inspiring messages.
The event was inaugurated by releasing balloons and unveiling the marathon logo.
Organisers Sachin Shetty, Suraj Uppoor, Vishal Singh, and others coordinated the launch. Vishal Singh also served as master of ceremonies.
Runners from across the region are encouraged to lace up for the cause and register early.
