Udupi: Notorious gangster and key accused in the David D’Souza shootout case, Anuj Patil, was shot in the leg by Police after allegedly assaulting personnel and attempting to escape from custody near Hebri.
The incident reportedly occurred while Police were transporting Patil to Hebri. According to sources, the accused allegedly attacked Police personnel during an attempt to flee.
Police open fire during scuffle
During the alleged struggle, Patil reportedly attempted to snatch the weapon belonging to a Kollur Police Sub-Inspector and fire it.
Kundapur Police Sub-Inspector Nanja Naik then allegedly opened fire, hitting Patil in the leg and bringing the situation under control.
Patil was immediately shifted to the Udupi district hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Accused in David D’Souza shootout case
Patil is accused of masterminding the logistics of the David D’Souza shootout by allegedly sending shooters, including Raju and his associates, to carry out the contract.
A native of Bihar, Patil reportedly operated primarily from Mumbai and had been absconding since 2017. Maharashtra authorities have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against him in connection with his alleged organised criminal activities.
11 cases registered across four regions
According to the information available, Patil has 11 criminal cases registered against him across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, and Karnataka.
Notably, 10 of the 11 cases have reportedly been registered under the Arms Act.
