Kundapur: Gold jewellery and foreign currency worth around Rs 95,000 were allegedly stolen from a house opposite Bobbaryankatte in Kundapur after burglars broke open the front door while the occupants were away.

The theft came to light on the morning of August 13 when the house owner’s son, Vijay Naveen Kumar, returned home after travelling to Mumbai.

House burgled in occupants’ absence

The incident took place at the house of Sharada, located opposite Bobbaryankatte.

According to information available, Vijay had left his mother at his aunt’s house in Kota before travelling to Mumbai on August 8. With the house left unoccupied, unidentified burglars allegedly targeted the property.

When Vijay returned to the house on the morning of August 13, he noticed signs of a break-in and discovered that valuables had been stolen.

The burglars reportedly forced open the latch of the front door using a weapon before entering the house.

Gold jewellery and foreign currency stolen

After gaining entry, the burglars allegedly searched the house and targeted valuables kept inside a cupboard.

Around 8 grams of gold jewellery and foreign currency were reportedly stolen. The combined value of the stolen gold and cash has been estimated at approximately Rs 95,000.

The police are investigating how the burglars gained access to the house and whether they had prior information about the property being unoccupied.

The exact quantity and value of the foreign currency are also part of the investigation.

Police inspect the crime scene

Following information about the burglary, Kundapur Circle Inspector Jayaram Gowda and City police station PSI Pushpa, along with other police personnel, visited the house.

The police team conducted an inspection of the premises and examined the circumstances surrounding the break-in.

Investigators are expected to collect available evidence from the house and surrounding area as part of efforts to identify the persons involved in the theft.

The manner in which the front-door latch was allegedly broken is also being examined.

Investigation under way

Police are investigating whether the burglars had conducted surveillance of the house before carrying out the theft.

Since the house was reportedly vacant for several days, investigators may examine information regarding the period during which the occupants were away and whether anyone had noticed suspicious movement around the property.

The police are also likely to check for possible leads from nearby residences and establishments as part of the investigation.

The recovery of stolen property and identification of the accused will be key aspects of the ongoing probe.

Residents urged to remain alert

The incident has once again highlighted the need for residents to take precautions when leaving homes unoccupied for extended periods.

Informing trusted neighbours about travel plans, securing doors and windows and keeping valuable items in safe locations can help reduce the risk of burglary.

Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspected burglars or made any arrests in connection with the incident.

The investigation is continuing to establish the sequence of events and trace the persons responsible for the theft.
