Udupi: Kota Police have registered a theft case after gold jewellery worth approximately ₹30 lakh was allegedly stolen from a house in Molahalli village of Kundapur taluk in Udupi district.
According to the complaint filed by Bharati (45), a resident of Kailkeri Mavinkatte in Molahalli village, she had kept the jewellery in a cupboard after returning from a wedding function on June 1. The theft came to light when she later opened the cupboard to retrieve the ornaments but found them missing. A search of the house failed to locate the valuables, following which she approached the police.
Jewellery weighing 320 grams reported missing
The stolen ornaments reportedly include seven gold bangles, seven gold rings, seven pairs of earrings, a pair of jhumkas, three bracelets, a black-bead chain, a gold necklace, a pearl chain, a red-stone necklace and two gold chains.
Police said the missing jewellery weighs around 320 grams and is valued at nearly ₹30 lakh.
Friend of family named in complaint
In her complaint, Bharati alleged that Chetan Shetty, a friend of her husband who frequently visited their residence and was familiar with the family, may have stolen the jewellery by taking advantage of occasions when the house was unoccupied.
Based on the complaint, Kota Police have registered a case under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway to verify the allegations and trace the missing valuables.
