Udupi: A 20-year-old woman from Gujarat who was reportedly found wandering at night in Kuntal Nagar has been rescued with the assistance of social workers and police personnel. The woman, identified as Shyamili, was initially taken to the Sakhi Centre before being shifted to Baliga Hospital for further care.

Shyamili is reportedly a graduate in hotel management. According to information available, she had been facing family disputes and alleged abuse and subsequently developed mental health difficulties.

Woman found wandering at night

Shyamili was reportedly found wandering in the Kuntal Nagar area during the night, prompting concern among those who came across her.

With the assistance of social workers, she was brought to the Sakhi Centre, where efforts were made to provide her with support and a safe place to stay.

The circumstances that led the young woman to leave her previous surroundings and reach Udupi are being looked into. Police and Sakhi Centre staff are also making efforts to trace her family members in Gujarat.

Shifted to Baliga Hospital

While staying at the Sakhi Centre, Shyamili reportedly became agitated and created a disturbance. Staff members were unable to bring the situation under control.

Following this, social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady intervened and arranged for her admission to Baliga Hospital late at night.

The decision was taken to ensure that she received appropriate medical attention and remained in a safe environment while efforts continued to establish contact with her relatives.

Woman speaks about child and relationship

During the episode, Shyamili reportedly told those assisting her that she has a six-month-old child.

She also appealed to be allowed to live with her child and a young man whom she said she loved. She reportedly stressed that she is 20 years old and therefore not a minor.

Her statements have added another dimension to the situation, with authorities and social workers attempting to verify her personal circumstances and establish contact with her family.

Social worker Shakeela from Katpady was involved in the rescue efforts, while Uday, Arun and Lingappa Gowda of Kaup police station also provided assistance.
