A tragic road mishap occurred on Monday at Jannal in Iduru Kunjadi village, Kundapur taluk, Udupi district, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Jose PT, also known as Rinso. Police reports indicate that Shabarish, the accused, was recklessly driving a mini goods vehicle from Kollur toward Kundapur at a high speed. He allegedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to a direct head-on crash with an Alto car approaching from the opposite direction, driven by Jose.
Jose sustained critical injuries in the impact and was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.
A woman passenger in the car, identified as Thresiamma alias Shanti, was also injured. She was referred to a hospital in Manipal for specialized medical care. Shabarish, the driver of the goods vehicle, also sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
The Kollur police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
This tragic event highlights the growing concern over speeding and careless driving on narrow roads, urging drivers to exercise caution at all times.
