Udupi: Heavy winds and rain lashed parts of Udupi on Saturday afternoon, uprooting a massive tree on Vijaya Veera Sangha Road near Chitpady. The fallen tree brought down more than three electricity poles, disrupting traffic and power supply in the area. No casualties were reported.

Tree falls across busy road

The incident occurred on Vijaya Veera Sangha Road near Chitpady, where strong winds accompanied by heavy rain uprooted a large tree.

The tree fell across the road, completely blocking vehicular movement for some time. It also uprooted more than three electricity poles, causing damage to power infrastructure and affecting electricity supply in the locality.

Residents clear road

Local residents immediately responded to the situation and informed the concerned authorities.

NSUI District Vice-President Sharat Kunder, who came to know about the incident, alerted the authorities and coordinated with local residents for immediate action.

With the cooperation of local youth and members of Vijaya Veera Sangha, the fallen tree was removed from the road, allowing traffic to resume after the obstruction was cleared.

No injuries reported

Despite the extent of the damage, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

The prompt response by local residents helped prevent prolonged traffic disruption and ensured the road was reopened safely.

Repair work underway

Personnel from the Electricity Department reached the spot after the incident and began repair work to restore the damaged electricity poles and power supply.

Authorities are continuing restoration work while monitoring weather conditions, as heavy rain and strong winds are expected to persist in the region.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during adverse weather and report fallen trees or damaged power lines to the concerned departments.
