The Karnataka High Court has refused bail to Praveen Arun Chougule, accused in the brutal murder of four members of a family in Nejaru, Udupi district. Chougule, a senior cabin crew member of an airline, stands accused of murdering his colleague Ainaz, her mother Haseena, and her siblings Afnan and Aaseem, with Ainaz’s grandmother surviving the attack. The incident occurred despite Ainaz not reciprocating Chougule’s affection, leading to a tragic and violent outcome.
Chougule had sought bail citing the filing of a chargesheet in the case, but the court rejected the plea. Additional Special Public Prosecutor Jagadeesha BN opposed bail, presenting evidence including DNA matching Chougule’s hair sample found at the crime scene, witness identifications, and technical data from Chougule’s car’s location tracker indicating his presence near the victims’ house.
Justice Uma, presiding over the case, emphasized the gravity of the crimes committed, noting the murder of four family members and the injury to the grandmother. The court highlighted the prosecution’s strong case based on forensic evidence, witness testimonies, and electronic communication records between Chougule and the deceased. These factors collectively led to the denial of bail, underscoring the court’s commitment to ensuring justice and public safety.
Social media discussions have emerged around the case under hashtags such as #JusticeForVictims, #HighCourtVerdict, #LegalJustice, and #CrimeAndPunishment, reflecting public sentiment and discourse on the handling of serious criminal cases and judicial decisions.
