The State High Court has directed the release of three individuals who were arrested in connection with the assault on a Dalit woman at Malpe Port over allegations of fish theft.
Legal Proceedings and Court Decision
A writ petition was earlier filed challenging the arrest of the three accused. After hearing the case, the High Court ruled in favor of their release. The individuals freed by the order are Lakshmi, Shilpa, and Sunder.
Bail Hearing for Remaining Accused
Meanwhile, the bail application for all five accused was heard at the Udupi District and Sessions Court. Public Prosecutor Jayaram Shetty objected to their bail request.
Following the High Court’s decision to release three accused, the hearing for the remaining two has been postponed to March 29.
