Udupi: Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza has praised the Udupi police for their swift action in connection with the murder of Congress leader David D’Souza.
Speaking during the funeral of David D’Souza at Pilaru Church in Mudrangadi, Ivan appreciated the police for acting promptly and arresting three people in connection with the case.
Police intensify investigation
Ivan said the police had intensified their investigation into the murder and expressed hope that further details would emerge as the probe progresses.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake also said three people had already been arrested in connection with the killing. He noted that there were suspicions of local involvement and said the investigation would shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the murder.
The remarks came as David D’Souza’s mortal remains were taken through Kaup, Katapady, Shirva and Mudrangadi before the final rites were conducted at Pilaru Church.
Ivan recalls close association
Recalling his association with David, Ivan D’Souza described him as a close friend who had been actively involved in business and social service.
He said David had earned the respect and goodwill of people across communities and described his death as an irreparable loss to the Congress party.
A large number of Congress workers, family members, friends and local residents attended the funeral and paid their final respects.
Mudrangadi observed a complete shutdown in view of the funeral, with shops and commercial establishments remaining closed and autorickshaws and tempos staying off the roads.
The police investigation into the murder is continuing, with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the killing and the possible involvement of others.
