Brahmavar: A three-day Jackfruit and Fruit Fair jointly organised by various organisations witnessed an enthusiastic response from visitors, farmers and entrepreneurs at the SMS Community Hall in Brahmavar. The event, held from May 22 to May 24, showcased a wide variety of jackfruit-based products, fruits and agricultural produce while promoting direct interaction between farmers and consumers.

The fair was jointly organised by Rotary Club Brahmavar, Rotary Club Barkur, the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture and the Regional Agricultural Research Centre.

The event remained open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm on all three days and witnessed a large turnout of people from different areas who visited the fair to explore agricultural products and food varieties.

Event highlights jackfruit products and local produce

The fair was inaugurated by Satish Shetty.

Addressing the gathering, entrepreneur Harish Kundar said the Jackfruit Fair has been organised continuously in Brahmavar over the past several years and has contributed significantly towards promoting jackfruit and its products.

He stated that the event had helped present a range of delicacies prepared using jackfruit and had played a role in bringing wider recognition to the fruit at the national level.

According to organisers, the exhibition aimed to highlight the versatility of jackfruit and encourage greater awareness regarding its value as a food and commercial crop.

Farmers connect directly with consumers

The event was organised under the concept of “Farmers’ produce directly to consumers”, providing an opportunity for cultivators and small-scale producers to market their products directly.

Hundreds of small farmers, entrepreneurs and home-based product makers participated in the exhibition and displayed a wide range of products.

Organisers said the direct-selling approach helps farmers interact with consumers while promoting local products and reducing dependence on intermediaries.

Visitors were able to purchase fresh produce and obtain information directly from growers and producers regarding cultivation and product preparation.

Rare fruit varieties attract visitors

One of the major attractions at the fair was the display of rare varieties of sweet mangoes and jackfruits that are generally uncommon in coastal regions.

A variety of jackfruit-based food items and products were also showcased, including jackfruit holige, biryani preparations, vegetable seeds and homemade products.

The exhibition additionally featured saplings of different jackfruit varieties, flowering plants and a range of fruits.

The display drew interest from visitors who explored agricultural products and innovative food preparations prepared using traditional ingredients.

Among those present were Kishori Shetty, Sudhir Kamath, Dr Revanna Revanna, Dr Dhananjay, Birti Rajesh Shetty, Baikady Suprasad Shetty, Lucas Dias and Rotary secretaries Sudarshan Udupa and Rexine.
