Varun Dhawan and Atlee’s much-awaited film, Baby John, failed to make an impact at the box office, despite high expectations. In an interview with India Today, Jackie Shroff, who played the antagonist in the film, shared his thoughts on its failure and its impact on him as an actor.

Jackie expressed how the failure of a film affects not just the actors, but also the producers, saying, “Producers do get affected. They invest a lot of money and trust into these projects, and when the returns don’t come, it’s sad.” He continued, “As actors, you want to be appreciated for your performance, but you also want the film to do well.”

When asked if the failure caused him personal distress, Jackie Shroff responded candidly, saying, “You do feel bad, but not for yourself, but for the producers. You give your best to the job, but you also think about those who’ve invested their money.”

Baby John, a remake of Atlee’s Theri starring Vijay, was made on a budget of over ₹180 crore but could only manage ₹60.4 crore worldwide and ₹39.34 crore in India. The film featured Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rajpal Yadav, alongside Jackie Shroff.

Looking ahead, Jackie Shroff has his upcoming project Baap in the pipeline, directed by Vivek Chauhan, with Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, and Sunny Deol in key roles. Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan will star in Karan Johar’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, slated for release on April 18, 2025.
