Kaup: A major accident was averted at Muloor near Kaup on Thursday after a bus driver who reportedly fell ill while driving managed to steer the vehicle towards the roadside, preventing a potentially serious mishap. All passengers on board escaped without serious injuries, although minor injuries were reported.

The incident occurred when a Vijayalakshmi Express bus travelling from Mangaluru towards Udupi reached Muloor. The driver reportedly suffered a sudden bout of illness, causing the bus to veer to the left and go out of control.

Despite his medical emergency, the driver managed to guide the bus towards the roadside in a quick response that helped prevent a more serious accident.

Bus crashes into trees along highway

According to the available details, the bus first crashed into a tree along the highway before continuing forward and eventually coming to a halt after hitting a larger tree.

The vehicle’s movement towards the roadside helped prevent it from entering a more dangerous path. Two electricity poles were located nearby, and a collision with either of them could have resulted in more serious consequences for the passengers.

The bus sustained the impact of the collision with the trees before finally stopping. The circumstances surrounding the driver’s sudden illness and the sequence of events leading to the crash were not immediately clear.

Passengers escape with minor injuries

All passengers travelling on the bus sustained minor injuries in the incident. However, no serious injuries were reported, and everyone escaped without major harm.

The incident could have resulted in a far more serious accident given the bus’s sudden loss of control and the presence of electricity poles near the road.

The driver’s ability to steer the vehicle towards the roadside, despite reportedly becoming unwell, played a crucial role in limiting the consequences of the incident.

Driver’s presence of mind prevents major tragedy

The incident at Muloor highlights the risks posed by sudden medical emergencies involving drivers of passenger vehicles, particularly on busy highways.

The driver’s quick response helped bring the bus to a stop before the situation could escalate into a more serious mishap. Although the vehicle collided with trees along the roadside, the outcome could have been considerably worse had it struck the nearby electricity poles or veered further off course.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of driver health and road safety, especially in public transport services that carry multiple passengers.

While the bus crash caused concern, the fact that all passengers escaped without serious injuries brought relief. The driver’s presence of mind during the emergency proved crucial in averting what could otherwise have been a major tragedy on the Mangaluru–Udupi route.
