Kaup: In a heartfelt show of commitment during ongoing heavy rains and flooding, Tahsildar Pratibha R personally visited a stranded family in Advekodi, Yermal village of Kaup taluk and promised swift relief action.

The family of Taranath, residents of a flood-hit area, have been wading through chest-deep water daily just to access essential needs. His children, Prajna and Prajwal, struggle to reach college, carrying their books and bags through submerged paths.“We often attend classes in damp clothes. It’s a challenge to keep books dry and bring groceries,” Prajna told the Tahsildar, appealing for a long-term solution.

Deeply moved, Tahsildar Pratibha herself walked through the water to reach their home. She acknowledged the crisis, citing silt and blockages in the Kamini River as the root cause of flooding.“It’s heartbreaking to see students in such conditions. I’ve ordered immediate desilting of the river,” she said.

The Kamini River, which flows from Padubidri to the sea, has experienced severe silt buildup, causing backwater flooding in Advekodi fields and homes. Officials from the Minor Irrigation Department have been directed to begin desilting operations without delay.

To further reassure citizens, the Tahsildar confirmed the taluk administration is on high alert with boats and trained rescue swimmers ready. The 24×7 control room can be reached at 0820-2551444 for any emergencies.
