Kaup: A mother and her two children were injured, one of them critically, after the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided with a parked tempo on the NH 66 flyover here on Saturday evening.

The injured have been identified as Sandhya and her children Gayan and Suvith, residents of Uchila. Suvith is reportedly in critical condition.

Rickshaw crashes into parked tempo

The accident occurred when the autorickshaw was travelling from Uchila towards Udupi. It reportedly collided with a tempo belonging to Kaup municipality that had been parked on the roadside of the NH 66 flyover.

According to preliminary information, the tempo had been stationed at the location as part of a drive to remove banners put up along the highway.

The impact was severe, leaving the autorickshaw badly mangled. The accident also briefly disrupted traffic movement on the busy national highway.

Locals assist injured

Following the accident, local residents and Kaup police rushed to the spot and helped clear the traffic congestion.

With the assistance of locals Soori Shetty and Nagaraj, the injured mother and her two children were shifted to a hospital in Udupi. They were transported in an ambulance belonging to the primary health centre.

The condition of Suvith is reportedly critical, while further details about the condition of Sandhya and Gayan were not immediately available.

Police register case

The Kaup police have registered a case in connection with the accident and are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
