Udupi: Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has presented a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) to the Udupi district police under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, strengthening mobility and field response capabilities of the force.
The vehicle was formally handed over at the district police headquarters in Udupi on February 20.
Key handed over at police headquarters
Udupi–Chikkamagaluru Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary and KRCL Regional Railway Manager–Karwar Asha Shetty handed over the key of the vehicle to Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar during a brief programme.
According to a statement issued by the MP’s office, the vehicle will be deployed for the use of Kota Police Station in Udupi district. The MUV is expected to enhance patrolling, emergency response and general law enforcement duties in the jurisdiction.
The statement noted that KRCL responded positively to a request made by the MP seeking support for strengthening the district police’s transport infrastructure.
Support under CSR initiative
The contribution has been made under KRCL’s CSR framework, which focuses on community welfare, public infrastructure support and social development initiatives along the Konkan Railway corridor.
Officials said that the addition of the multi-utility vehicle would help the police improve operational efficiency, particularly in semi-urban and rural stretches falling under Kota Police Station limits.
With Udupi district witnessing steady growth in traffic movement and population, enhanced mobility is considered crucial for maintaining law and order, conducting investigations and ensuring timely response to emergencies.
