Udupi: In a shocking case of honey trap and extortion, Kundapur police have arrested six people, including a woman, for allegedly luring a man, assaulting him, and extorting lakhs of rupees. The accused have been identified as Savad (28) of Byndoor Nawunda, Saipulla (38) of Kundapur Gulwadi, Mohammed Nasir Sharif (36) of Kundapur Hangaluru, Abdul Sattar (23) of Kumbashi, Abdul Aziz (26) of Hosanagar in Shivamogga district, and Asma (43) of Kundapur Kodi. Police have also seized two cars used in the crime.

Victim lured through woman

According to the complaint, Sandeep Kumar came into contact with Savad three months ago, who later introduced him to Asma and shared her number, claiming she was available for sexual favours. On September 2, Asma called Sandeep to RR Plaza near Malnad Petrol Bunk in Kundapur at 6:30 pm. Sandeep went there in an auto and was taken to Asma’s house.

Assault and extortion

Soon after, Asma called the other accused, who allegedly barged in with weapons, threatened Sandeep with a knife, and demanded ₹3 lakh. When he tried to flee, the gang tied his hands with a nylon rope and assaulted him with rods and fists, inflicting injuries on his left shoulder and back. They snatched ₹6,200 from his pocket and continued to threaten him.

Under pressure, Sandeep transferred ₹30,000 to Saipulla’s account through online banking. The gang then forcibly took his ATM card and PIN, withdrawing ₹40,000 from his account. The victim alleged he was also threatened with death if he failed to pay more.

Case registered, investigation underway

Based on Sandeep’s complaint, police registered a case under charges of kidnapping, extortion, assault, and criminal intimidation. The six accused were arrested, and police seized two cars used during the crime. Further investigation is ongoing to determine if the gang was involved in similar honey trap cases in Kundapur and surrounding areas.

Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant against such organised rackets and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
