During a storm on Wednesday evening in Nalkuru village of Brahmavar taluk, a cow was struck by lightning and killed. In a separate incident in Marne village of Karkala taluk, a house sustained significant damage from a lightning strike.
The cow, owned by Pumpa Naik of Nalkuru village, was killed instantly by the lightning strike, resulting in an estimated loss of over ₹15,000. Meanwhile, in Marne village, Gopi’s house was partially damaged, incurring an estimated loss of ₹50,000.
These incidents occurred as the district experiences erratic weather patterns. Despite the monsoon not fully arriving, the region has been experiencing evening storms, while the rest of the day remains hot and sunny, making the heat difficult to bear. The average rainfall in the district has been recorded at 11.4 mm, with specific areas like Hebri recording 18.2 mm, Karkala 17.6 mm, Kundapur and Brahmavar 9.8 mm, Udupi 9.1 mm, Byndoor 5.7 mm, and Kaup 4.9 mm.
Weather forecasts predict moderate rain in most parts of the three coastal districts of the state tomorrow, with heavy rain expected from June 8 to 10. These conditions highlight the importance of being prepared for sudden weather changes and ensuring safety measures are in place to protect lives and property.
