On Saturday night in Basroor, a dramatic and violent incident unfolded when Lakshman (38) attempted to kill his wife, Anita (32), with a knife. The couple, originally from Sagar and working at a local retirement home, had been residing in Basroor accommodation. The attack occurred around 9 PM following a heated argument.

After assaulting Anita with the knife, Lakshman barricaded himself inside their room, brandishing the weapon and threatening anyone who tried to intervene. For over an hour, he prevented anyone from entering, creating a dangerous standoff.

Emergency services, including the Kundapur (Kandloor) Rural Police and the fire brigade, arrived at the scene to rescue Anita. Efforts to enter the room were initially thwarted. The police first attempted to use chili powder through a window, but Lakshman evaded it. They then tried using a gas gun, which also proved unsuccessful. Eventually, a team managed to break through the front door while another team entered through the window, successfully rescuing Anita and apprehending Lakshman.

Anita was immediately transported to a hospital in Kundapur for treatment of her injuries. Lakshman has been arrested and is in police custody. The incident highlights the severe domestic violence risks and the challenges faced by emergency responders in such high-stress situations.
