The Kundapura Rural Police have arrested Lakshman after a two-hour operation for brutally assaulting his wife, Anitha. The incident occurred on Saturday night, when the couple, who were employed as laborers at a private firm in Basrur and staying in company-provided accommodation, had a heated argument.

Ramachandra, the firm’s manager, reported that frequent quarrels were common between the couple. On hearing loud noises from their room, Vittala, another manager, rushed to find Lakshman threatening Anitha with a sickle. Anitha had sustained neck injuries and was lying in a pool of blood. Vittala immediately informed Ramachandra, who arrived to find Lakshman brandishing the sickle and preventing anyone from helping Anitha.

Despite repeated requests from police to leave the room, Lakshman refused. Authorities resorted to using chili powder and tear gas to subdue him. After noticing Lakshman growing tired, the police, with assistance from local youth and the Fire and Emergency Services, broke a window to enter the room and rescue Anitha.

Anitha was rushed to the hospital and is reportedly out of danger. Lakshman was subsequently arrested. The operation, which involved significant coordination between various emergency services, lasted nearly two hours.

A case has been registered at the Kundapura Rural Police Station under Section 109 BNS. This incident highlights the critical role of community and emergency services in handling domestic violence situations.
