Manipal: Manipal police solved a daytime house burglary case within 12 hours of the complaint being filed and arrested four accused, including two minors, in a swift operation conducted in Udupi district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Santosh alias Santosh Poleshi (20), originally from Vijayapura and currently residing at Hanuman Nagar in Udupi Puttur, and Chiranthan (21), a resident of Kalmadi in Kodavoor village. The other two accused involved in the case are minors, police said.
According to police officials, the burglary took place on March 12 at a house belonging to Sangeetha Madivala located in Shantinagar in 80 Badagubettu village under the jurisdiction of Manipal Police Station.
House broken into by removing roof tiles
Investigators said the accused gained entry into the house by removing roof tiles. After entering the residence, they allegedly broke open a cupboard and stole gold and silver ornaments along with cash that had been kept inside.
The total value of the stolen property was estimated to be several lakhs of rupees. Following the incident, the house owner lodged a complaint at the Manipal Police Station, after which a case of house burglary was registered.
Police immediately launched an investigation and formed a special team to track down the suspects involved in the crime.
Suspects detained during patrol
During the course of the investigation, police personnel noticed suspicious movement near the Simbra bridge area in Manipal on March 13.
A patrol team detained two men and two minors who were found behaving suspiciously in the area. During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the burglary that had taken place in Shantinagar.
Based on the information provided by the accused, police recovered the stolen property from them.
Stolen property worth ₹4.47 lakh recovered
Officials confirmed that gold and silver ornaments, jewellery, cash and tools allegedly used to commit the crime were seized from the accused.
The total value of the recovered items has been estimated at ₹4,47,000. Police said the swift recovery of the stolen property was possible due to the timely investigation and coordinated efforts of the police team.
Authorities have initiated further legal procedures against the accused, while the two minors will be dealt with according to the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar and Additional Superintendent of Police Sudhakar S. Nayak.
The investigation was conducted under the direction of Udupi Deputy Superintendent of Police Belliyappa K.
The team that solved the case included Manipal Police Inspector Mahesh Prasad, Police Sub-Inspector Thimmesh B.N., and staff members Vishwajit Belle, Mohammed Ajwal Haikady, Chetan and Raviraj.
Station investigation assistants Suresh Shetty and Sukumar Shetty, jeep driver Saleem, Satish, and personnel from the Udupi CDR division including Dinesh and Nithin were also part of the operation.
