Udupi: MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty asserted that he has worked selflessly for the people of his constituency over the past two years, without any bias based on caste, community, or religion. Speaking at a press conference in Kapu, he criticized former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake for allegedly misleading the public under the guise of truth.

“Despite limited government funds, I have done my best to serve the people. Yet, Sorake is spreading falsehoods to cover up the failures of the Congress government in Kapu,” Shetty stated. He added that even Congress ministers and MLAs have acknowledged their own government’s shortcomings, while Sorake continues to deny them.

Highlighting his developmental efforts, Shetty said he has secured over ₹1.5 crore through CSR grants from private companies. He has also identified homeless families in the constituency and proposed the construction of 1,000 houses to the Housing Minister.

“I’ve raised many key issues in the Assembly, including matters related to land rights (9/11, 94C, 94CC), the classification of deemed forests, the condition of government schools and hospitals, and staff shortages in public offices,” he said.

Responding to accusations that his family has been involved in government contracts, Shetty strongly denied any wrongdoing. “Neither I nor my family has taken contracts. All works above ₹5 lakh are done through transparent tendering. If Sorake insists otherwise, I challenge him to join me and take an oath in Ellur, Nandikur, or Kaupmarigudi,” he declared.
