A dramatic accident unfolded on Thursday afternoon when a motorcyclist lost control while speeding downhill and plunged into a rivulet beside NH 66, near the Nakatte minor bridge, within the jurisdiction of the Byndoor police station. The rider, identified as Usman (24), son of K P Ismail from Kirimanjeshwara, managed to escape the incident despite the harrowing circumstances.
Usman, who operates a fishing business in Bhatkal, was en route home to Kirimanjeshwara after a morning outing when the incident occurred around noon. As he approached the Nakatte minor bridge, he veered too far left, causing his motorcycle to fall into the rivulet. The water’s depth caused the bike to sink, but Usman displayed remarkable resilience, swimming to safety.
Reports indicate that Usman had been sleep-deprived for two days following a deep-sea fishing trip, which likely contributed to him dozing off while riding. Fortunately, he survived the mishap and received medical treatment at the Byndoor government hospital, where he is expected to recover.
