Udupi: A footwear collection campaign titled ‘Nadige’, with the theme ‘Your Donation, Support for a Thousand Steps’, has been launched at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College in Udupi to collect unused footwear and distribute it to people in need.

The initiative is being organised under the leadership of Avinash Kamath in collaboration with the GreenSole Foundation, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of MGM College and other organisations. The campaign aims to promote social responsibility while reducing waste through the reuse and recycling of footwear.

The collection drive is being held on the MGM College campus from October 23 to 25, between 9.30 am and 6 pm each day. Members of the public have been invited to participate by donating unused footwear that can be put to use by people who need it.

‘Nadige’ aims to support people in need

The campaign’s name, ‘Nadige’, means ‘walk’ or ‘step’, reflecting its objective of helping people access footwear while encouraging the community to contribute to a meaningful social cause.

Under the initiative, unused footwear collected from donors will be channelled towards people in need. The organisers hope that public participation will help make footwear accessible to vulnerable sections of society.

The campaign also encourages people to look at unused household items as potential resources that can benefit others rather than allowing them to remain unused or be discarded.

By inviting donations from the public, the organisers aim to create awareness about the importance of sharing resources and supporting those who face difficulties meeting everyday needs.

Partnership with GreenSole Foundation promotes sustainability

The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the GreenSole Foundation, an organisation that focuses on environmental sustainability through the reuse and recycling of footwear.

The campaign combines social welfare with environmental conservation. Collecting unused footwear for reuse or recycling can help reduce waste while extending the useful life of materials that might otherwise be discarded.

Through this partnership, the organisers aim to ensure that the collected footwear contributes to the initiative’s social and environmental objectives.

The drive also highlights how community-level activities can encourage more responsible consumption habits. Donating footwear that is no longer needed but remains suitable for reuse can help reduce unnecessary waste and provide practical assistance to others.

MGM College NSS unit supports community initiative

The National Service Scheme unit of MGM College is among the key partners supporting the campaign.

The participation of the college’s NSS unit provides an opportunity to encourage students to engage in community service and develop a greater awareness of social and environmental issues.

Such initiatives can help connect educational institutions with the wider community by encouraging students and members of the public to work together towards a common goal.

The ‘Nadige’ campaign also demonstrates how partnerships between educational institutions, social organisations and individual volunteers can help mobilise resources for people in need.

Public urged to donate unused footwear

Organiser Avinash Kamath has appealed to the public to participate enthusiastically in the campaign and contribute unused footwear.

The collection drive is being held at MGM College from October 23 to 25, with collection counters operating between 9.30 am and 6 pm.

The organisers have called on residents to support the initiative and help make the campaign a success. Their appeal emphasises the importance of small individual contributions in creating a wider social impact.

By bringing together footwear donations, community participation and environmental awareness, ‘Nadige’ seeks to turn unused items into useful resources for those who need them.

The campaign’s central message is that a simple act of giving can help someone take their next step while also contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
