In a late-night incident that underscores the vigilance and courage of law enforcement, a woman police officer on night patrol duty intercepted a suspicious individual near Udupi in the early hours of July 26, around 2:30 am.

The officer, who was patrolling the area as part of routine surveillance to deter nighttime crimes, noticed a man loitering under suspicious circumstances. When she approached him and began questioning his presence and intent, the man allegedly responded with hostility. According to police reports, he used abusive and obscene language, attempted to physically assault the officer, and obstructed her from performing her official duties.

Despite the aggressive behavior, the officer maintained her composure and alerted fellow personnel, who arrived at the scene promptly. The accused was taken into custody without further incident.

The individual was later identified as Sagar (25), a resident of Jumadinagar in Kodavoor village, Udupi taluk. The Manipal police station registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC, including obstruction of public servant, criminal intimidation, and assault.

Sagar was produced before the Udupi jurisdictional court, which remanded him to judicial custody pending investigation and trial.

This incident highlights the growing challenges faced by police officers, especially women in frontline roles, and reinforces the importance of night patrolling in maintaining law and order. The officer’s timely response and professionalism have been commended by her department.
