Kaup: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy who was critically injured in a collision between an auto-rickshaw and a tempo at the Kaup flyover on Saturday died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Udupi.

The deceased has been identified as Suvit, who was travelling with his mother Sandhya and sibling Gayan in the auto-rickshaw when the accident occurred.

Auto-rickshaw collides with municipal tempo

The accident took place when the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Uchila towards Udupi. At the Kaup flyover, it collided with a tempo belonging to Kaup Municipality.

The municipal tempo was reportedly being used to remove a banner installed along the roadside when the collision occurred.

Sandhya, a resident of Uchila, and her children Gayan and Suvit sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Suvit, who was one-and-a-half years old, sustained critical injuries in the collision and was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Udupi.

Child dies during treatment

Despite treatment, the toddler died on Monday while undergoing treatment in the ICU, doctors said.

The child’s death has added to the tragedy for the family, while the circumstances surrounding the collision are being examined by the police.

A case has been registered at the Kaup police station in connection with the accident.

Police investigation underway

Kaup police are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the collision between the auto-rickshaw and the municipal tempo.

The police are expected to examine the sequence of events at the flyover and gather relevant information as part of the investigation.
