Mangaluru: More than 7.83 lakh children and young people aged between one and 19 years in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have been identified to receive free deworming tablets as part of National Deworming Day on Monday.
Over 5 lakh beneficiaries in Dakshina Kannada
According to the district administration, 5,11,049 beneficiaries have been identified in Dakshina Kannada district for the deworming programme.
The tablets will be administered through anganwadis, schools and colleges, in the presence of teachers and attendants, as part of the district-wide health initiative.
Udupi identifies 2.72 lakh beneficiaries
In neighbouring Udupi district, 2,72,477 people in the one-to-19 age group have been identified for the programme.
The initiative aims to address hookworm issues among children and young people through the administration of deworming tablets.
Teachers, midday meal staff and anganwadi workers will also be provided with the tablets as part of the programme.
Mop-up drive planned on August 17
Those who are unable to receive the tablets on National Deworming Day will be covered during a mop-up drive on August 17.
The district administrations have made arrangements through educational and childcare institutions to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are covered under the initiative.
