Udupi: An in-patient at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal reportedly broke through the safety measures of a hospital ward, including a glass window and the protective external facade, on Wednesday afternoon, causing panic among patients and visitors.
According to the hospital administration, the patient subsequently moved onto the exterior of the building and jumped from the facade, sustaining injuries.
Hospital security rescues patient
In an official statement, the hospital administration said the patient broke through the ward’s glass window and the protective external facade before moving onto the building’s exterior.
“The patient subsequently jumped from the facade and sustained injuries. Hospital security personnel immediately reached the spot, rescued the patient, and shifted them for emergency medical care,” the statement said.
The incident reportedly caused panic among patients and visitors in the hospital ward and surrounding areas.
Following the incident, the injured patient was provided emergency medical attention by the hospital’s medical team.
Patient stable, says hospital
The hospital administration said the patient is currently stable and continues to remain under the care of doctors.
“The patient is currently stable and continues to be under the care of doctors at the hospital,” the statement added.
The hospital management has also confirmed that the incident has been intimated to the authorities as required under statutory provisions.
The hospital said it is extending full cooperation to the authorities in connection with the matter.
Hospital cites patient privacy
The hospital administration declined to provide further details about the patient or the circumstances surrounding the incident, citing patient privacy.
The identity of the patient and other details concerning the treatment have not been disclosed.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, where the patient had been admitted as an in-patient.
