Udupi: Police have arrested an accused in the murder of David D’Souza, who was shot dead in broad daylight at Mudarangadi in Kapu taluk of Udupi district.
Suspect allegedly attacks police during arrest
The accused, identified as Raju, was being taken into custody by a police team led by Kapu PSI Tejaswi and Karkala Rural PSI Prasanna when he allegedly attacked the police and attempted to escape near Ottinene in Byndoor.
Police said an attempt was made to stop Raju during the incident. Kapu PSI Tejaswi subsequently fired his service pistol at Raju’s leg and apprehended him.
Raju was taken into custody following the incident and is undergoing treatment.
PSI Tejaswi injured in incident
PSI Tejaswi also sustained injuries during the incident and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Udupi.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured police officer.
The incident occurred during the police operation to apprehend those accused in the murder of David D’Souza, who was shot dead at Mudarangadi.
Further investigation into the murder and the circumstances surrounding the arrest is continuing.
