Udupi: Mounting complaints about prolonged delays in single site plan approvals by the Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) have led to strong intervention from Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary, who has directed officials to resolve all pending files within 15 days.
Chairing a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Manipal on Saturday, the MP addressed concerns over site plan and Form 9/11 approvals. He noted that ever since the responsibility of distributing 9/11 was moved from gram panchayats to the UUDA, applicants have faced unnecessary delays.
Despite clear government instructions to approve site plans with a 6-metre setback from the road, officials have reportedly left thousands of applications pending. MP Poojary warned that if road widening is not feasible, approvals with a 3.5-metre clearance—as per alternate norms—must be granted.
The MP also stressed the need to eliminate middlemen from the approval process and relieve the public of unnecessary hurdles.
MLA Yashpal Suvarna revealed that over 11,000 site plan requests are pending in the district, calling for immediate attention. MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi pointed out the difficulty faced by applicants from remote areas like Kundapur and Byndoor, while MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty warned that the delay is damaging the district administration’s credibility.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Abid Gadyal instructed officials to prioritize and process applications promptly, especially those with gram panchayat backing.
